Ibrahima Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and his contract runs until the end of the 2025–26 season. Konaté has made 165 appearances for Liverpool and contributed to four major honours, including last season's Premier League title. He has won 325 aerial duels in the Premier League since arriving, second only to Virgil van Dijk's 604. Van Dijk described Konaté as a world-class centre back and an important on- and off-pitch leader, and expressed hope that a contract resolution can be reached between the club, the player, and his agents. Van Dijk scored the winner in a 1–0 victory at Sunderland, with both defenders praised for an imperious defensive performance.
