Rio Ngumoha scored a 100th-minute winning goal on his Premier League debut for Liverpool at St. James' Park, curling home from Mohamed Salah's centre. Ngumoha came off the bench shortly before the strike and became Liverpool's youngest ever goalscorer and the fourth-youngest in Premier League history. Liverpool had led 2-0 before Newcastle fought back to level, with Anthony Gordon sent off late in the first half and Newcastle missing target Alexander Isak. Virgil van Dijk described the debut as a dream, encouraged Ngumoha to enjoy the moment, work hard and remain humble.
"It's a dream debut for him,"
"We stayed calm towards the end, tried to find the right solution to score a goal."
"I'm very pleased for Rio. He has to work hard and stay humble but he has to enjoy it - you can't take these nights for granted."
"16 - Rio Ngumoha is the second 16-year-old to score a winning goal in a Premier League game, after Wayne Rooney in October 2002 for Everton vs Arsenal; he is one day older (16 years, 361 days) than Rooney was that day. Entrance. pic.twitter.com/m3rerDZHId - OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 25, 2025"
