USA 3-1 Portugal (Oct 26, 2025) Game Analysis - ESPN
""Positionally, attacking wise, we were much, much better in all phases of the field. I think it's a good lesson," Hayes said after the match. "The goal we conceded was an exact moment of not jumping out in the wrong moment. Didn't quite get a detail right, and as we keep telling the players: At the highest level, those details matter. So, I have a coaching opportunity around the goal.""
""I thought we responded well to [the Portugal goal], kept playing, kept showing our principles, showed the control element that I felt was lacking in the last game," Hayes added. "It was, overall, a much better performance.""
The United States beat Portugal 3-1 in East Hartford as Olivia Moultrie scored at 45 seconds and again in the 10th minute. Sam Coffey entered as a substitute in the 77th minute and scored in the 82nd to secure the win. The teams had met earlier in the window with Portugal winning 2-1, marking Portugal's first victory over the U.S. Eight changes were made to the starting lineup from the previous match.
