"We will not compromise in our fight to protect Turkish football from scandal, decay, and corrupt relationships."
The Turkish Football Federation suspended 102 top-tier club players amid a widening betting scandal. The federation suspended 25 Super Lig players and 77 second-tier players for periods ranging from 45 days to one year. More than 1,000 players have been referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board as part of the ongoing investigation. Galatasaray defender Eren Elmali received a 45-day suspension after admitting to a past bet on a match that did not involve his team, while teammate Metehan Baltaci was suspended for nine months. The federation shut down third- and fourth-tier divisions for two weeks but allowed the Super Lig and second tier to continue. Federation leadership vowed to purge corruption, scandal, and unethical practices from Turkish football.
