Alexander Isak completed a deadline-day transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool after effectively going on strike, generating hostility among some Newcastle supporters. Isak joined a Sweden attack that included Viktor Gyokeres but could not prevent a 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Kosovo, ranked 91st by FIFA. Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson blamed the attackers and was sacked soon after. Sweden sit bottom of Group B with one point, while Switzerland and Kosovo lead on 10 and seven points respectively. Isak described the situation as embarrassing, disappointing and a crisis, and said there has been no progress in qualifying.
