"Whatever way I'm received is the decision of the fans. I'll always love the club, I'll always be a fan of the club. I'll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things we achieved together they'll live with me for ever."
"I remember him from a young age in the academy and then coming to the first team and winning the Champions League, he said. So he needs to enjoy the moment because it is nice to be back."
A mural of Trent Alexander-Arnold near Anfield was vandalised again ahead of his return with Real Madrid less than six months after he left Liverpool at the end of his contract. A section of Liverpool fans reacted angrily to his departure and booed him. The mural, unveiled in 2019 after Liverpool's Champions League win, had the word rat daubed on it previously; on Tuesday the word was written again multiple times and white paint was thrown over the picture before workmen cleaned it. Alexander-Arnold stated he will always love the club and be thankful for shared achievements. Real manager Xabi Alonso recalled Alexander-Arnold's academy progression and urged him to enjoy returning to Anfield.
