Thomas Gachignard of Team TotalEnergies secured victory in the opening stage of the Tour du Limousin-Périgord-Nouvelle Aquitaine. He won a two-up sprint at La Courtine to claim first place ahead of Ewen Costiou of Arkéa-B&B Hotels. Gachignard now leads the overall classification. The stage featured a challenging route with three categorized climbs towards the end. An initial breakaway group gained significant time on the peloton but was caught before the final climbs. Alexandre Delettre and Andrea Vendrame finished third and fourth, respectively, ahead of the chasing peloton.
Thomas Gachignard of Team TotalEnergies won the opening stage of the Tour du Limousin-Périgord-Nouvelle Aquitaine in a two-up sprint against Ewen Costiou, taking the lead in the overall classification. Gachignard launched his sprint from about 400 metres out, successfully fending off Costiou to cross the finish line first at La Courtine.
The initial stage featured a challenging route with three categorized ascents in the final third of the race, including Côte de Liffaud, Côte d'Abbas-Féniers, and Côte de la Croid de la Mission. An early breakaway included six riders who initially gained nearly two minutes on the peloton but were caught as the climbing intensified.
