Rudi Garcia selected Youri Tielemans as the permanent captain of Belgium's national team after rotating the armband among different players at the start of 2025. Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Thomas Meunier and Tielemans each wore the armband during Garcia's early matches. Tielemans expressed pride in the captaincy and said the role will not alter his personality or attitude within the squad. Garcia cited Tielemans's strong relationships and unanimity among the group while noting other leaders remain influential. Belgium have four points from two World Cup qualifiers, following a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia and a 4-3 win over Wales, and travel to Liechtenstein next.
