"It's great to see two different sets of colours in the ground during an Old Firm game but is it really worth it? I was personally happy when there was just one set of supporters in the stadium during the Old Firm. I know I'm in the minority and people will argue that the atmosphere is not the same but is it worth it giving what we saw yesterday?"
"You're putting police and staff at risk, and you've got fans running onto the pitch to attack people working there. Away supporters have been prevented from attending Old Firm derbies in recent years, and this was the first time Celtic were given the full Broomloan Road Stand since 2018."
Following Celtic's 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Rangers in a Scottish Cup quarter-final, violence erupted when away fans entered the pitch and clashed with home supporters. Nine arrests were made for violence inside and outside Ibrox stadium, including assaults on police, coaches, and players. Investigations were launched into vandalism, graffiti, and pyrotechnic incidents. Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan responded by calling for a ban on away supporters at Old Firm derbies, arguing the safety risks to police and staff outweigh the atmospheric benefits of having both sets of fans present. Away supporters had been restricted from attending these matches in recent years.
