""That aligns with Ross County and the fact we've got things we need to prove - we want to win this league and we want to get back to the top flight. "That's what Tony wants and that's what we want, so really the stars aligned in that situation.""
""I am really excited and desperate to get started. "I would like a playing style and an identity on the pitch that the fans can get excited about.""
""I see Ross County as a top flight football club, but there will be real competition,""
Tony Docherty has been appointed Ross County manager after leaving Dundee three months earlier following survival of the Scottish Premiership. Club chief executive Steven Ferguson says Docherty brings a 'fire' and shares the club's ambition to win the Championship and return to the top flight. Don Cowie left by mutual agreement but built a squad Ferguson believes is capable of promotion, and Docherty's role is to 'light the fire' to achieve that aim. Docherty praises the passion and ambition of Ferguson and chairman Roy MacGregor and seeks a playing style and identity to excite fans. He plans to draw on promotion-chasing experience at Kilmarnock and St Johnstone and on observations from meetings with David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers. He also values time as a BBC pundit for analysis of Scottish and European teams.
