"I've known Jérôme from Hamburg. I was 20 and he was 18 or 19 when we met. We also played together at Manchester City. If you saw him back then, no one would have expected him to be this successful. Of course, he can become a top coach if he works hard and surrounds himself with good people, you can always become the best. But that takes time,"
"Could he join my coaching staff? I don't discuss that publicly. But an internship for a few weeks, sure, of course, he's always invited to that as a Bayern legend. We can benefit from his experience as a world-class defender."
"Boateng is in the process of figuring out what is next, but a couple of weeks shadowing a scorching hot Bayern Munich side would not be the worst thing he could do."
Vincent Kompany has known Jérôme Boateng since their Hamburg days and later played with him at Manchester City. Early impressions did not predict Boateng's eventual success as a world-class defender. Boateng can become an excellent coach if he works hard and surrounds himself with capable people, but that development requires time. Kompany will not publicly commit to appointing Boateng to Bayern's coaching staff, yet he explicitly welcomes a short internship. A few weeks shadowing Bayern would allow Boateng to gain experience and allow the club to benefit from his defensive knowledge as he plans his next steps.
