Textor reveals Man City star Cherki almost joined PSG in cut-price deal - Soccer News
"Cherki was supposed to go to PSG for €15m,"
"There was a very unusual clause in his contract, which wasn't a true release clause, but it still gave him some leeway to leave."
"In the end, if he had been entirely our player without all these complications, we would have got more for him. But getting over €30m for a player whose release clause was set well below that amount... I think, financially, we did as well as we could."
Rayan Cherki transferred to Manchester City for an estimated €39m after 185 senior appearances for Lyon following his academy development. He nearly joined PSG for €15m because an unusual contractual clause gave him leeway to leave, which limited Lyon's negotiating position and resulted in a sale above €30m despite the low clause. At City, Cherki has excelled: since early November he has the most assists (six) across Europe's top five leagues and has averaged 3.89 chances created per 90 in the Premier League, the highest among players with at least 200 minutes. His 3.24 open-play chances created per 90 ranks second to Jeremy Doku.
