Sweden coach Potter extends contract to 2030
"To be able to continue in this role means a lot to me. I feel both a great pride and a great responsibility. It's a big day for me and a fantastic opportunity to do something important going forward. Sweden is a football country with a proud history of teams that have made it to the finals of major championships and competed there, which we want to return to."
Graham Potter, the 50-year-old former West Ham, Chelsea, and Brighton manager, has extended his contract as Sweden's head coach until 2030. He replaced Jon Dahl Tomasson in October on a temporary basis to revive Sweden's struggling World Cup campaign. Sweden remains in contention for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico if they successfully navigate playoff matches against Ukraine and then either Poland or Albania this month. Potter expressed pride and responsibility in the role, emphasizing Sweden's football heritage and ambition to return to major championship finals. His appointment followed his dismissal from West Ham in September after poor Premier League performance, though he had previously demonstrated success with Ostersund.
