Steve McClaren resigned as Jamaica manager after a 0-0 draw with Curacao in Kingston denied Jamaica the last automatic CONCACAF World Cup qualifying spot, allowing Curacao to become the smallest nation to qualify. He presented the resignation as an act of accountability and said a fresh voice and new energy might be required while Jamaica can still pursue qualification via inter-continental playoffs in March 2026. McClaren served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant, contributing to Manchester United’s 1999 treble and three Premier League titles, and as Middlesbrough head coach he reached an FA Cup semi and won the 2003–04 League Cup, earning European qualification.
