Spokane Zephyr's losing skid extended to four in 1-0 loss to Brooklyn
"As the first half of the season draws to a close, the Zephyr looked to snap a three-game skid without its star forward Ally Cook - who leads the team in goals scored (four) - in a road match against Brooklyn FC at Maimonides Park Saturday - a team that lost 11 straight games, but has clinched all three of its wins at home."
"And at the 74-minute mark, Spokane surrendered its fourth-latest goal of the year as Sofia Lewis scored her second goal of the season for Brooklyn and the Zephyr's losing streak extended to four. Off a pass from Samantha Kroeger, Lewis dribbled to the top-left corner of the penalty box and chipped a shot over Hope Hisey, who leads the USL Super League in saves (46)."
Spokane entered the match on a 1-3-1 run and aimed to halt a three-game losing streak without top scorer Ally Cook. Brooklyn tested Spokane early, forcing saves and outshooting the Zephyr 5-2 in the first 30 minutes. A Ginger Fontenot goal was nullified by offsides, and Emma Jaskaniec had a close-range shot denied by Brooklyn goalkeeper Breanna Norris. Spokane generated eight second-half chances and Cameron Tucker struck the left post from over 35 yards. Brooklyn recorded 44 clearances and scored in the 74th minute through Sofia Lewis, while Hope Hisey led the league with 46 saves and Spokane held 60.6% possession.
