Jose Maria Gimenez headed home from Antoine Griezmann's corner in the 93rd minute to win the Champions League match at the Metropolitano. Julian Alvarez opened the scoring early, and Atletico have scored eight goals in the opening 10 minutes of Champions League matches since the start of 2023-24. Piotr Zielinski equalised for Inter, forcing Atletico to dig deep for victory. Gimenez's goal, timed at 92 minutes and 31 seconds, was the latest winning goal ever scored against Inter in the competition. Atletico remain unbeaten in 10 home matches across all competitions this term and sit 12th in the Champions League standings. Diego Simeone praised Gimenez's humility, leadership and energy and applauded the squad's collective performance.
