""There should be a new owner coming in the next couple of days, hopefully," Bannan told BBC Sport. "We're looking forward to that, we see that the takeover's close. "We definitely need it. We need a boost at the minute because we've lost a lot of games. "It's hard to keep people going when you're losing games, but this could be the boost that we need.""
""If the new owner pays less than this it will fall below the English Football League (EFL) insolvency threshold. This requires unsecured creditors, those not directly related to football or HMRC, to be paid at least 25p in the pound for their debt. If that level is not reached the club face a deduction of 15 points. That will be applied at a time to be determined by the EFL, but ordinarily it is at the start of the following season.""
Sheffield Wednesday entered administration in October, ending Dejphon Chansiri's decade-long ownership. Joint-administrator Kris Wigfield said periods of confidentiality are essential while genuine progress is being made toward naming a preferred bidder. The takeover process narrowed from around ten parties to two final offers, one from Mike Ashley and a joint American bid by John McEvoy and the Storch family. The cost to pay creditors and administrators is reported at about £35m; paying less risks falling below the EFL insolvency threshold. Failure to meet that threshold could trigger a 15-point deduction, worsening the club's current -9 points and harming promotion prospects. Captain Barry Bannan expects a new owner imminently and says a takeover could provide a much-needed boost after a run of losses.
