Sheehan steps down as Ipswich Women boss
"I would like to thank Joe for the passion and commitment he has shown during his time in charge of Town Women, which has included the team moving to professional status as well as two promotions under his leadership,"
"We are currently in discussions with Joe regarding a new role, which will hopefully see him remain at the club, utilising his vast experience in developing young players."
"We look to continue the growth of the club's women's programme, both in the short and long-term, beginning with our desire to retain our status in WSL2 during the final 11 games of the season under the interim leadership of David Wright,"
Joe Sheehan has stepped down as Ipswich Town Women manager after almost seven years in charge. He took charge in February 2019 and led the team to promotion from the third tier last season, helping the club move to professional status and securing two promotions. Ipswich sit bottom of WSL2 with five points from 11 games and one win as they prepare to visit Charlton Athletic. Club leadership thanked Sheehan for his passion and commitment and indicated discussions about a new role to utilise his experience developing young players. Former defender David Wright will manage the team on an interim basis for the rest of the season, having worked as an academy coach and recently assisted the women's team, with the club aiming to retain WSL2 status in the final 11 games.
