She celebrated like a Champions League final - Kendall shines on homecoming as England beat Ghana - Soccer News
"I hoped we would score more. I think if we had taken our chances better, it would have been more than this. There were a lot of different players, and we know as individuals they are really good, but we have to build those connections again. We're happy, but Lucia's goal was funny. She was so happy, and she celebrated as if it was a Champions League final! Good for her!"
"When she played Australia last month, she almost had a goal and it was an enjoyable moment. A good goal too."
England defeated Ghana 2-0 in a friendly at St Mary's. Lucia Kendall, a Southampton academy graduate who joined Aston Villa in July, scored her first England goal six minutes into only her second senior start. Kendall also struck the crossbar as England hit the woodwork four times, and Alessia Russo converted a late penalty. England amassed 24 shots (10 on target) with an expected goals (xG) of 5.2, compared with Ghana's three shots (one on target) and 0.25 xG. Several squad changes and substitutions were used, and there was recognition that the margin should have been larger and on-field connections need rebuilding.
