At its Annual General Meeting, the Scottish FA announced stricter regulations allowing for sanctions against clubs whose fans use pyrotechnics. Chief executive Ian Maxwell emphasized a preference to avoid severe consequences, such as expulsion from the Scottish Cup. The regulations now align with those of the SPFL, suggesting strong punitive measures like fines and ticket restriction could be implemented. UEFA's past experiences with crowd control were considered, highlighting the influence of ticket allocation changes in deterring misbehavior, although strict liability remains off the table for now.
"You would absolutely never want to get to that stage, and we need to look at the steps that we can take to avoid that," Maxwell told BBC Sport Scotland.
"It's been documented in Uefa sanctions that the threat of ticket reductions has an impact - and the SPFL have used that after the League Cup semi-finals - so maybe that's something that we need to consider," Maxwell added.
