The offside flag denied Senegal a penalty for a foul on Sarr by Abuzaid, but Papa Gueye completed the turnaround in first-half stoppage time, slamming home a left-footed finish after excellent work from Jackson."
"Senegal came from behind to clinch their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations as they saw off Sudan 3-1. The Lions of Teranga surprisingly fell behind in the sixth minute when Amar Abdallah put Sudan ahead in Tangier. But a brace from Papa Gueye saw Senegal take a 2-1 lead into half-time, before Ibrahim Mbaye made sure of victory 13 minutes from the end of normal time."
Senegal came from behind to beat Sudan 3-1 in Tangier and advance to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Amar Abdallah gave Sudan an early shock lead with a curling left-footed strike. Senegal then controlled large portions of the match, with Ismaila Sarr and Nicolas Jackson creating chances and goalkeeper Monged Abuzaid making several key saves. Papa Gueye scored twice — equalising and then putting Senegal ahead before half-time — and Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the victory late in the second half from a long ball by Sadie Mane. A much sterner test awaits Senegal in the last eight against Mali or Tunisia.
