"I have the goal of winning a championship in Germany. We have been close. The Champions League is very difficult to win, and we were close there too. In the DFB-Pokal, I was close as well. As a professional footballer, I've only won the Under-21 European Championship. Now I want to actually hold something in my hands."

Nico Schlotterbeck aims to win a German championship and is considering whether to extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund amid transfer interest. He joined Dortmund from Freiburg in 2022 and has made 142 appearances in all competitions. The Germany international has featured 18 times this season after recovering from a meniscus tear sustained at the end of last season. Dortmund have kept six clean sheets in those games; Schlotterbeck ranks joint-third in interceptions (21), fourth in clearances (63), and has won 29 of 48 aerial duels. He has not yet won a major club trophy, having lost the 2024 Champions League final and finishing runner-up in the DFB-Pokal with Freiburg. Bayern Munich harbour long-term interest while his contract runs until the end of 2026–27. Dortmund sit second in the Bundesliga at the winter break, nine points behind Bayern, and visit Eintracht Frankfurt on January 9, 2026.
