"Nobody, even in Egypt, wants to win this trophy more than me,"
"I have won almost every prize. This is the title I am waiting for."
Mohamed Salah carries heavy expectation as Egypt face Senegal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final. Egypt are seven-time continental champions but last won in 2010, before Salah's international debut. Salah lost finals in 2017 and 2021 and missed the 2023 finals through injury. Salah said he wants the trophy more than anyone in Egypt and that the AFCON title is the one he is waiting for. He will face former Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mané, who scored the decisive penalty in the 2021 final. Both players are 33, and AFCON becomes quadrennial from 2028, possibly making this Salah's last chance.
