Achraf Hakimi, a Moroccan right back for Paris Saint-Germain, was named African Footballer of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat. Hakimi became the first defender to claim the prize since Bwanga Tshimen in 1973 and the first Moroccan winner since Mustapha Hadji in 1998. He played a key role in PSG's treble-winning season, including a 5-0 Champions League final victory over Inter Milan, plus Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles, and PSG also won the UEFA Super Cup in 2025. Hakimi placed sixth in the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
