Poch: 'Your name' won't guarantee World Cup spot
"That is not because your name is one or another, that you are going to have the place [for] sure in the roster for the World Cup," Pochettino said."
"That I think is an idea that we were fighting in the last year to try to fix that changed the culture, changed the vision, changed the idea of, 'Okay is because in the past I performed in some way or because I did well four year ago now I am right to come and to use my place because that is my place.' And I think that is changed a lot."
"Tessmann and Aidan Morris are playing in a regular way every single week, and are players that they need to have the continuity, and with continuity, they can help us to arrive and to perform," Pochettino said."
"We know that [Robinson] is an important player for us and I think it's a moment to bring him in ," Pochettino said."
Reputations no longer guarantee a U.S. World Cup roster spot; selection will be based on current form and competition for places. A 26-player camp opens Oct. 4 ahead of friendlies against Ecuador (Oct. 10) and Australia (Oct. 14). Recalled players include Tanner Tessmann, Aidan Morris, Antonee Robinson and Weston McKennie. Tessmann and Morris are playing regularly and are viewed as needing continuity to contribute. Antonee Robinson returns after knee surgery but will be managed carefully because of limited minutes at Fulham. Club coordination informed Robinson's reintegration. The roster emphasizes merit, continuity and preparedness for the World Cup cycle.
