John Robertson died at the age of 72. He was on the transfer list before Brian Clough's arrival in 1975 but became a key player under Clough, appearing in 243 consecutive games between December 1976 and December 1980. Robertson scored the penalty winner in the 1978 League Cup final replay and delivered the cross for Trevor Francis in the European Cup final, then scored Forest's only goal as they retained the European Cup in 1980. He earned 28 Scotland caps, scoring notable international goals including a winner against England in 1981 and a goal at the 1982 World Cup, later serving as assistant manager to Martin O'Neill at several clubs after a 1983 transfer to Derby County.
