Major League Soccer will change its competition calendar to a summer-to-spring format starting in 2027, following a two-year review. The current February–December season with playoffs beginning in October will transition to a regular season that starts in July and concludes with playoffs in late May. A transition season will run from February to May, and the league will institute a mid-winter break from mid-December to early February with no matches in January. The shift aims to align MLS with the FIFA calendar, reduce clashes with international breaks and tournaments, and improve transfer-market and global competitiveness opportunities.
