Official: Bayern Munich's U-19s are knocked out of the UEFA Youth League in the group stages
"The UEFA Youth League, the Champions League's junior version, is rather similar to its' senior counterpart with its' Swiss League format, but with two significant differences: There are just 6 games and only the first 22 are qualified for the next round. Bayern Munich's U-19s played the last of their six games on Tuesday against Sporting CP, throwing away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at home."
"It was a rather fitting end to an awful Youth League campaign, as the Bavarians won just one game in six and end with four points from these six games. Last season, Bayern's U-19s made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Inter Milan (just like the senior team, ironically enough) but that will not happen this season as the Bavarians finished 27th in the table and so were knocked out of the competition in the group stages."
The UEFA Youth League uses a Swiss League format with only six games and the top 22 teams advancing. Bayern Munich U-19s drew their final match 3-3 at home with Sporting CP after leading 3-1. The team won just one of six matches and finished the campaign with four points, placing 27th and exiting at the group stage. Bayern U-19s reached the quarterfinals last season but suffered an early domestic cup exit again this season. The U-19s performed well in domestic league play, finishing top of their group in the first phase.
