NWSL's Jessica Berman gets multi-year extension
""It's been the honor of my career to lead the NWSL during such an extraordinary period of growth," Berman said in a news conference. "Every success we've achieved, from expansion to investment to the player experience, is the result of collaboration across this league. I'm proud of what we've built and even more excited about where we're headed. The best is yet to come.""
""We want people to come into our stadiums and expect the level of energy we have here today [in Washington, D.C.] each and every week for every regular-season game in all 16 markets. We want those games to be exciting to watch on TV and we want the best product on the field, ensuring we have the best players, and that will all support our vision to be the best league in the world.""
Jessica Berman received a multi-year extension to remain NWSL commissioner, with the deal reported to run through the 2028 season. The extension was announced two days before the 12th NWSL Championship. Berman became commissioner in 2022 amid a leaguewide reckoning after two separate yearlong investigations uncovered systemic abuse. Key priorities for the next three years include driving growth and awareness, increasing stadium attendance across all 16 markets, improving the television product, and securing the best players to raise on-field quality. The NWSL board of governors debated the contract renewal for months before approving the extension.
