"As players, we have chosen to not take the knee before kick-off this afternoon. Instead, we will stand up against racism,"
"I have spoken to my team-mates at length, and we agree that taking the knee no longer feels meaningful. We are still seeing prejudice and racism, and there is so much more that everyone should be doing."
"We acknowledge that not all players may choose to take the knee over these games, which follows the approach the Lionesses took in the summer."
"We have always been player led and we support each individual choice in how they mark the occasion in a way that feels right for them."
Tottenham's women's team opted not to take the knee before a WSL match, stating the gesture no longer feels meaningful after players faced racist abuse. Captain Bethany England said the players will stand up against racism and will wear T-shirts during the warm-up to convey messages. The WSL invited clubs to take the knee for Black History Month but acknowledged that players may choose alternative actions and supported individual choices. Other teams linked arms in the centre circle rather than kneeling. The Lionesses stopped taking the knee at Euro 2025 after a player received racist social media abuse.
