""For us, last month was really disappointing," Osimhen said during a team media availability Monday in reference to the loss against Congo DR. "It is not how we thought it would be, but life has happened and I think we have moved on, but the painful memory still lingers so we want to use this opportunity to send a clear message out there that we still have it in us.""
""For our own selves also, not just for the fans. We will give everything to make sure we actualize this dream. We want to use this opportunity of coming to AFCON to try to make up for so many disappointments that we have given them and use everything we have to make them happy. For us, now we are going to war and Tuesday is the first one and we will give everything.""
Victor Osimhen said Nigeria were stung by failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and aim to channel that disappointment into Africa Cup of Nations success in Morocco. Nigeria failed to qualify directly, reached a playoff, beat Gabon in the semifinal but then lost to Congo DR on penalties in the final, ending World Cup hopes. Osimhen acknowledged shortcomings in recent games and called AFCON a major opportunity to rectify mistakes and restore confidence. He said the team will give everything starting with the opener against Tanzania, with Uganda and Tunisia also in Group C.
