Neymar signed a contract extension to remain with Santos through the end of 2026 and publicly announced the renewal on the club's social channels. He returned to his boyhood club in January 2025 and helped the team avoid relegation despite knee injuries and a late-season survival battle. Santos reported that Neymar underwent a successful minor operation on his left knee on Dec. 22 and he has not played for Brazil since suffering an ACL tear in October 2023. Neymar scored 11 goals in 34 appearances after joining in 2025 and hopes to regain fitness for World Cup selection. Santos will begin the Sao Paulo State Championship on Jan. 10 and opens Serie A play on Jan. 28 against Chapecoense.
