Neymar extends Santos contract in bid to play at 2026 World Cup
"Santos is my place, I'm at home,"
"It's with you that I want to achieve the dreams that are still missing."
Neymar signed a contract extension with Santos that runs until the end of 2026. He returned to his boyhood club in January 2025 and is working to rebuild fitness and form after prolonged injury setbacks. The forward has not played for Brazil since 2023 because of recurring fitness issues despite being the country's all-time leading scorer. Neymar scored five goals in the final five matches of the season to help Santos avoid relegation. He underwent left knee meniscus surgery after the campaign to boost chances of a national-team recall under coach Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti has stated a recall will depend on Neymar being fully fit. Neymar previously suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in October 2023 and missed a year, and a subsequent muscle injury delayed an earlier expected return.
