England were 26-3 after six overs with Brook on six and Bethell on two. Smith was dismissed in the second over after a risky shot and the TV umpire Paul Reiffel overturned a not-out, finding the spike. Duckett hit a huge six in the third over and later top-edged to Ravindra at mid-on. Root was trapped by a sharply angled inswinger and lost his wicket in the fourth over. The innings featured wides from Foulkes and a straightening delivery to Bethell. A moment's silence honored Ben Austin, who died after being hit in the nets while practising in Melbourne.
