Benfica manager Jose Mourinho suggested Vinicius did not celebrate respectfully and implied incidents occur frequently where Vinicius plays, prompting criticism. Former midfielder Clarence Seedorf condemned Mourinho for appearing to justify racial abuse and said such behaviour must never be justified. England international Trent Alexander-Arnold described the incident as a disgrace to football that ruined the night and said there is no place for it in society.
