Major League Soccer reopened its investigation into Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner after new allegations and potentially new information emerged. The Union placed Tanner on administrative leave. The MLS Players Association filed a complaint in late January alleging a range of misconduct, including racist, sexist and homophobic language and instances of inappropriate physical contact with a staff member. An investigative review found supporting evidence for six of the MLSPA's eight allegations and included interviews with 17 subjects plus review of materials. The allegations cover much of Tanner's seven-year tenure in Philadelphia. Tanner's legal representatives deny the accusations. MLS previously could not corroborate claims but reserved the right to reopen and operates an anonymous reporting hotline.
