Javier Mascherano, head coach of Inter Miami CF, confirmed that the team did not receive sanctions from Major League Soccer due to Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba missing the All-Star Game. The league had communicated their absence on the day of the event, despite their selection by fans and media. Mascherano clarified that Messi was experiencing fatigue, while Alba had a minor injury. Both players returned to training ahead of the match against FC Cincinnati, with their availability reliant on fitness. Mascherano criticized scheduling All-Star Games amid tournament play.
Mascherano emphasized that Messi is not injured, but Alba did suffer a knock after the game against the New York Red Bulls on July 19.
Mascherano insists that though the All-Star game works in theory, the event should not be scheduled between tournaments in order for players to feel well enough to participate.
Mascherano said, "Well, Messi showed normal fatigue from the number of games and minutes he's been playing," highlighting the impact of continuous game schedules.
Mascherano stated, "if they want to do this type of event, it's great to do it, and the truth is that it's great for the league."
