Asmita Ale is a Leicester City defender born in Britain to parents who emigrated from Nepal. Her father, Amrit, served about 19 years as a Gurkha soldier and was a talented squash player who trained for Nepal's national squad before the South Asian Games were cancelled after 9/11; he competed regularly for the Army. Ale joined Aston Villa at eight and signed her first professional contract at 18 in 2019, becoming the first footballer of Nepalese origin to sign a professional contract in England. Her family maintains strong sporting habits and cultural ties, and her parents continue to support relatives in Nepal. Ale joined the Foxes permanently in summer 2024 after an earlier loan spell.
