Maresca: Delap "very close" to return from injury
"We have him [Marc], we have also Tyrique who has played games as a nine in the past. He did well. He played I think against Benfica as a nine. We have different options. We have one more session this afternoon and then we decide. We trust Marc. We trust already last year, he was always playing in the Conference [League]. We also gave him some Premier League games so we show in the past that we trust Marc."
"Liam is very close."
"He is not working with us yet, he is still out but hopefully he can start in the next days to take part in the session with us."
Liam Delap is nearing a return to training after a hamstring injury that forced his exit from the 2-0 win over Fulham on Aug. 30 and led to an initial absence of up to 12 weeks. Chelsea pursued late-window adjustments, failing to block Nicolas Jackson's move to Bayern Munich, recalling Marc Guiu from Sunderland and deciding against Tyrique George's £22m move to Fulham. João Pedro has been the only recognised senior striker available. Delap joined for £30m from Ipswich Town and could begin team sessions in the coming days. João Pedro is suspended for the Ajax game, leaving Marc and Tyrique as alternate nine options. The squad has received five red cards in six matches, including Malo Gusto's dismissal at Nottingham Forest and the manager's own sending-off.
