"He will be a free agent in the summer of 2026, and Crystal Palace will be under pressure to sell him in January. They will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer. Liverpool will be hoping to sign him for a reasonable amount of money. They agreed a 35 million fee with Crystal Palace in the summer, and they will be hoping to sign the player for less in January."
Marc Guehi completed a medical with Liverpool during the summer but the transfer collapsed when Crystal Palace could not sign a quality replacement for their captain. Guehi felt disappointed by the failed move but decided to stay and recommit himself to Crystal Palace, the team, and the staff while affirming his south London roots. Guehi will become a free agent in summer 2026, which may force Palace to consider selling him in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Liverpool had agreed a £35 million fee previously and may return in January seeking a lower price amid defensive injuries.
