Ethan McLeod, a 21-year-old forward for Macclesfield FC, died in a car crash on the M1 while travelling back from the club's 2-1 National League North victory at Bedford Town. His Mercedes struck a nearside metal barrier and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Macclesfield described him as an incredibly talented, well-respected squad member whose infectious personality, professionalism, work ethic and lust for life inspired teammates and staff. McLeod joined Macclesfield in July after coming through the Wolves academy and brief spells at Alvechurch, Rushall Athletic and Stourbridge. He made seven appearances for Macclesfield, scoring three goals.
