Luigi Mangione's Cousin to Play on Brooklyn MLS Team Miles Away from Prison
"People reports that on Jan. 14, Peter Mangione signed a deal with the soccer team as a midfielder. This means he will play only a few miles away from the Brooklyn prison where his 27-year-old cousin is being held prior to his trial for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Peter has been added to Brooklyn FC's first USL Championship roster and joins the team from FC Cincinnati. The 24-year-old played with FC Cincinnati 2, FC Cincinnati's reserve team, where he made 28 appearances."
"Brooklyn FC's first USL Championship game is on March 8 against Indy Eleven in Coney Island, Brooklyn's Maimonides Park. "He brings a balanced midfield profile to Brooklyn, with the engine to cover ground and the end product to impact matches in the final third," the club wrote in a statement announcing Peter's signing. In college, he played for Penn State University, earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2021 and 2023."
"Luigi is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, near Coney Island. He's been held at the facility since December 2024, the same prison where Diddy was being held until his October move to Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey. Just last week, Luigi returned to court, where his attorney tried to get the death penalty tossed out."
