Liverpool sign Alexander Isak in British transfer record 125m deal from Newcastle
"Oliver Glasner, the Palace manager, is understood to have been furious at the decision to accept Liverpool's offer and reiterated his plea not to sell his captain during heated talks with Parish. There were even fears that the Austrian, who led Palace to their first trophy when they won the FA Cup in May, could step down after making it clear that they must keep hold of Guehi to have a successful season."
"The England international is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has no intention of signing an extension. Liverpool may renew their attempts to sign Guehi in January but he could have interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich if he becomes a free agent next summer. Parish had said after Palace's win in the Community Shield last month that it would be in the club's best interests to sell Guehi rather than lose him for free."
Liverpool completed a British transfer record by signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125m on deadline day and gave him a six-year contract worth around £300,000 a week after a Merseyside medical. Liverpool pursued Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with Palace accepting £35m plus £5m in add-ons and Guehi having a medical in London. Palace withdrew from the deal when they failed to secure an experienced replacement, and Liverpool could not finalise alternative centre-back signings before the deadline. Palace manager Oliver Glasner reacted angrily. Guehi is in the final year of his contract and could attract Barcelona or Bayern next summer.
