Leverkusen appoint Hjulmand to succeed Ten Hag
""It is an honour to be entrusted with such a team," Hjulmand said."
""I am now very motivated to help shape the future of Bayer Leverkusen with both established and exciting new players.""
""an even bigger mistake""
Kasper Hjulmand has been appointed Bayer Leverkusen head coach on a contract through summer 2027 after Erik ten Hag was sacked following two games in charge. The 53-year-old Dane guided Denmark to the European Championship semi-finals in 2021 and led Nordsjaelland to their only Danish title in 2011-12. Hjulmand said he is motivated to shape Leverkusen's future with established and new players. Leverkusen dismissed Ten Hag on 1 September after he had replaced Xabi Alonso, who departed for Real Madrid after an unbeaten league and cup double in 2023-24. Leverkusen sit 12th with one point from two Bundesliga matches, and Hjulmand is expected to be in charge for the home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.
