Ronald Koeman's coaching career began in 2000 with Vitesse, followed by successful tenures at clubs like Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, Southampton, and Everton. After managing the Netherlands national team since 2018 and a period with Barcelona, he states that his chances of returning to club management are very slim. Koeman prefers the positive environment of national coaching, emphasizing the joy of the players and their camaraderie, and he seeks to avoid the drama associated with club football.
"It's not definitive, but the chances of me coaching a club again are very slim," he said. The ex-Barca boss explained that he enjoys coaching national teams more and prefers the environment around the Dutch squad.
"Everyone comes with a smile. Everyone is happy to see each other again and to be able to speak Dutch again," he said.
The drama of dealing with disgruntled or wantaway players is another factor he doesn't miss, adding: "You don't want to focus on that, because you want to focus on the football aspect."
Koeman has managed 725 matches in all competitions at club level, but he has no plans to return to that stage.
