"From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the club and to all the fans for the love, respect and support shown during this incredibly difficult time. Your messages and gestures have meant more than words can express."
"Diogo Jota, forever in our hearts"
Diogo Jota, 28, was killed in a car crash in Cernadilla in the Zamora province of Spain alongside his 25-year-old brother Andre Silva. His Lamborghini suffered a tyre blow-out, crashed and caught fire. Rute Cardoso thanked the club and fans on Instagram for their love, respect and support and said messages and gestures meant more than words. Jota's sons Dinis and Duarte led the Liverpool team out as mascots before the Premier League game against Wolves. A banner read "Diogo Jota, forever in our hearts." Liverpool retired his number 20 shirt. Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool and 44 goals in 131 appearances for Wolves, and helped Liverpool win the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Premier League title.
