Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr reported that Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni called him a 'monkey' after Vinicius scored, prompting a roughly eight-minute halt while the incident was reported to the match official. Prestianni denies the allegation and told his accusers to 'stop inventing things.' Benfica manager Jose Mourinho suggested Vinicius's celebrations partly provoked the crowd, urged a restrained celebration after such goals, defended Benfica's non-racist identity by citing Eusebio, and said he wanted to remain independent in assessing accounts. Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out publicly criticised Mourinho's remarks and emphasised priorities when discrimination is reported.
