Christophe Laporte is set to return to competitive racing at the Cyclassics Hamburg after a ten-month hiatus due to illness from cytomegalovirus. The 32-year-old, who won Paris-Tours last October, was unable to participate in the Spring Classics. He will ride alongside Wout van Aert for the Visma team, who is entering the race earlier than expected as a substitute for the ill Olav Kooij. The race features challenging climbs, particularly the Waseberg, often favoring a clash between sprinters and stronger Classics riders.
After a strong Tour of Poland, Olav was struggling with symptoms this week. He ultimately proved unfit to start. We have a fantastic replacement in Wout.
This is a WorldTour race that often turns into a battle between the sprinters and stronger Classics riders. My only participation, in 2022, showed that the course suits me.
