Smilla Holmberg joined Arsenal on a long-term contract from Hammarby at age 19 after progressing through Hammarby's academy. Holmberg made 96 senior appearances for Hammarby, scored 10 goals from right-back and helped the club to a league and cup double in 2023 and the Damallsvenskan title again in 2025. Holmberg has nine senior caps for Sweden and reached the Euro 2025 quarter-finals. Arsenal have not disclosed the length of her deal. Arsenal sit third in the Women's Super League and return to league action against fourth-place Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
