The upcoming UCI World Championships in Rwanda marks a historic milestone as the first cycling world championships held in Africa. Despite challenges such as regional conflicts and financial constraints affecting team participation, Rwandan Cycling Federation President Samson Ndayishimiye expresses optimism. He cites the event's potential to enhance the sport's global presence and inspire new talent. The UCI aims to create a lasting legacy with improved infrastructure and training opportunities in Africa, including the establishment of a new training base in Kigali and ongoing support for various cycling stakeholders.
In February, we opened the UCI satellite, the second one in the continent of Africa. It's a good opportunity not only for the riders, but also for everybody else involved, commissaires, coaches, mechanics.
We appreciate the good relationship we have with the UCI, and the rest of the world for giving us this opportunity and trusting us to deliver.
